How to see your notes during a video call or live stream on your phone
In a video call or a live stream, you can't hold a sheet of notes up to the camera, and switching apps to check your notes shows on screen. What you want is your notes floating on top of the app you are using, close to the camera.
Why notes on a second device don't work well
A laptop or a second phone off to the side makes your eyes move away from the camera every time you check it. Viewers see you looking somewhere else. The closer your notes are to the lens, the more natural you look.
Floating notes over another app
On Android, an app can show a small window on top of other apps. A floating prompter uses this to keep your script over your video call, camera app or streaming app:
- Place it right under the front camera so your eyes stay near the lens.
- Make it small — a thin strip with a line or two is often enough.
- Make it see-through so you can still see the call underneath.
Doing it with Teleprompter: Talk & Scroll
The floating prompter in Teleprompter: Talk & Scroll works over other apps:
- Drag it anywhere and resize it from a thin strip to the full screen.
- Fold it into a small bubble when you don't need it, and open it again with a tap.
- Set how see-through it is.
- Auto, voice and manual scrolling all work in the window. With voice tracking, the script follows what you say, so you don't need a free hand.
- When you come back to the app, it picks up where the window left off.
The floating prompter is free three times a day, and one short ad opens it for the next 24 hours.
Tips for calls and streams
- Use talking points, not full sentences, for calls. Reading word for word sounds stiff in a conversation.
- Use full script for recorded intros or announcements, where wording matters.
- Test with a friend first. Check that your video app's layout doesn't put the floating window over something you need to tap.
- Mute notifications before you go live, so nothing pops up over your notes.
